JEE Main 2020
Every year, almost a million Indian students aspire to become engineers one day. For those who opt for science after class 10, there is only one obstacle that stands between the students and their dream of becoming a capable engineer. This obstacle is nothing else but the Joint Entrance Examination, the toughest set of competitive examinations that you are likely to find anywhere in the world, let alone India.
The JEE Main is a competitive examination held for admission to engineering and architecture courses of some of the most prestigious institutes of India, such as the NITs and IIITs. Over 13 lakh students sit for the JEE Main exam every year, hoping to grab a seat at the engineering institute of their dreams.
About IIT JEE Main
The NTA JEE Main, since 2019, is proctored by the National Testing Agency. It is now held twice a year, once in January, and once in April, as opposed to being held only once a year prior to 2019. The NTA allows students to appear for both sessions of the JEE Main, and the better performance is considered for college admissions later on.
There are two papers held as part of the NTA JEE Main, the first paper is for those who seek admission to engineering courses, and the second paper is for those who want to take admission in architecture and planning courses. The syllabus for both these papers has been officially released by the NTA, consisting of topics from physics, chemistry, mathematics, and general architecture aptitude.
JEE Main exam pattern
From 2020, there has been a significant change in the JEE Main exam pattern. As opposed to 30 questions from each of the three subjects, the JEE Main from 2020 onwards will have 25 questions each from physics, chemistry, and mathematics, making up a total of 75 questions. 5 questions from each subject will be integer answer type questions with no negative marking.
The marking scheme remains the same as before, with 4 marks being awarded for the correct answer, 1 mark being deducted for a wrong answer, and 0 marks for leaving a question blank.
